Technique Book 1A (Alexander, Kowalchyk, Lancaster, McArthur, Mier)

Now your students will have the technical tools needed to achieve artistic performances. They will encounter skills in four areas-playing naturally (physical aspects), moving freely (around the keyboard), playing beautifully (tone production) and playing artistically. The technical goals are accomplished through three types of activities-patterned exercises with necessary repetitions to make the technique feel natural, artistic etudes that showcase the student's technique in an artistic musical setting and appealing and descriptive exercises called Technique Tools.

The nine Technique Tools in Level 1A relate to relaxed shoulders, arm weight, moving freely, strong fingertips, finger weights, repeated notes, thumb position, finger independence and gentle hand rock. Each page in the Technique Book correlates with a specific page in the Lesson Book; when the Lesson, Theory, Performance and Technique books are used together, they offer a fully integrated and unparalleled comprehensive approach to piano instruction. 32 pages. The Level 2B Lesson Book of Alfred's Premier Piano Course continues the expansion of note-reading skills begun in Levels 1A, 1B and 2A and includes melodic and harmonic 7ths and octaves to aid the student with moving freely around the keyboard. Level 6, the LAST level in Alfred's Premier Piano Course, continues the steady development of artistry and keyboard skills that began in 1A and continued through 5.

1. The keys of E-flat major, C and B minor (natural and harmonic) are introduced, as well as melodic minor scales, diminished triads, and major flat key signatures. 2. Harmonic progressions include root position V7 chords, the ii-V7-I chord progression, and diatonic triads. 3. Mixed meter and syncopated rhythm patterns with eighth notes and sixteenth notes are used to create gradually more complex rhythm figures. 4. Elements of music style in the Romantic and Contemporary periods introduce students to stylistic considerations in performing music of those eras, as well as to important keyboard composers. 5. A special section on popular music traces the history and development of popular styles. 6.
